In a world where everybody is stressed out with all kinds of problems, bipolar depression has become the disease of the century. Since millions of people around the world have been diagnosed with depression, doctors are facing a challenge in finding the best treatments for depression. What is depression? Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect the thoughts, behaviour, feelings and physical well being of a person. Depressed people may experience and feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worthless, restless or irritable. Depression is a serious condition that needs to be treated right away. The right treatments for depression need to be administered as soon as possible, in order to avoid more serious complications.

There are many treatments for depression nowadays that can be recommended in all cases. You should know that the treatments for depression may vary from one doctor to another. There are traditional medicated treatments, as well as more unconventional ones, such as  cognitive behavioural therapy, that consists in the doctor talking to the patient about the problems he/she is experiencing. Other unconventional treatments for depression consist in music therapy, art therapy, group therapy, animal-assisted therapy, physical exercise and medicines such as antidepressants, as well as keeping a diary.

A doctor usually performs a medical examination in order to determine the causes of the depression as well prescribing the proper treatments for depression. More often than not, the doctor will also recommend a CT scan that would exclude brain pathology in those with psychotic, rapid onset or other unusual symptoms. Depressed people can also develop dementia, such as Alzheimer’s. Disturbed circadian rhythm may also contribute to depression. Depressed moods can be the result of a number of infectious diseases and physiological problems. For example, mononucleosis often results in symptoms that mimic a depressive psychiatric disorder. The best thing that you could do in the event of noticing these symptoms is to undergo an examination, so that the doctor can prescribe the right treatments for depression.
